The following boards can be built in any of our 3, 4 or 5 day workshops in Maine or New York. Our more complex shapes such as the Cutwater and Fantail are available to build yourself in our one-on-one Private Workshops.
What You Learn
Our crew, who collectively have been building wooden surfboards for close to 50 years, will guide students through the step-by-step process to ensure that each board that leaves the class will be a beautiful one-of-a-kind surfboard that will last a lifetime with just a little care. Together, we'll explore basic surfboard design concepts, the simple application of steam to manipulate wood into shapes, adhesive applications, elements of edge tool work and use of other traditional hand tools. We will do our best to arrange glassing demonstrations in our downtime to help students with the techniques they will use if glassing at home.
Classes usually fill quickly, and we hate it when people miss out, so don't hesitate to to reserve your shaping stand soon. Click here to see all of our classes in Maine and New York. "Building a Grain board has been on my bucket list for over a decade. Little did I know it would change my life. I have been building things since I was a young lad but the workshop, specifically your knowledge of surfing, surfboards, water, waves, wood and people combined with your gift to teach took my existing skill set to a new level and expanded my appreciation for wood, it’s subtle nuances and beauty. The opportunity to share this experience alongside my son elevated it to a level of awesomeness that I will hold close to my heart for the rest of my days on this journey we call life. Thank you from the core of my being!" Brian- Jan 2021 Workshop
