We never thought when we decided to start building wood surfboards that there would be anything even remotely unusual about it. Get wood. Build surfboard. Go surf.
But it turns out that there are occasional bizarre events that are just part of the package of belonging to Grain. One of them was the series of get-togethers we had with the brewers and brewmasters of Dogfish Head Brewery to make a beer from our cedar scraps. As if making a surfboard-flavored beer wasn't strange enough, as part of that we also spent some time with Bengt Anderson and the crew of Zero-Point-Zero Productions who were producing a show for Discovery Channel about Dogfish Head's quest for the amazing in suds.
Yeah - it's fully bizarre to suddenly find yourself in front of TV cameras, miked, with directors, production assistants, and bustle all around you. But what was cool about the whole experience is that the people of Dogfish Head and of Zero-Point-Zero were just like us - regular people that are totally immersed in their chosen endeavors, creating something unusual, something they are proud of, something with art in it, something of quality.
No matter how goofy we may look on the small screen, we wouldn't have missed getting to know these excellent people, the chance to see inside their respective crafts, and the resulting inspiration to be even more thoughtful about our own.
The Discovery Channel episode of 'BrewMasters' in which Grain appears airs Thursday, December 9 at 8: pm
