Come to Surf Re-Evolution and Meet... Pendoflex Surfboards

A big part of our goal in putting on Surf Re-Evolution is to bring some of the people that are doing really interesting things in other parts of the world... to our part of the world. While there certainly are pockets of people putting in valiant efforts, the Northeast isn't exactly a hotbed for experimentation in design, construction or materials. Through this event, we're able to help our friends gain some exposure here, plus give local surfers a chance to try some boards that they might not ever see in these waters. So in the spring, when we start wracking our brains to seek out the re-evolutionary movers and shakers, we can't help but to turn to San Diego County. And you don't have to look to hard to find Pendoflex Surfboards. Born and raised in San Diego, Steve began building wave-riding vehicles, beginning with a marine ply paipo in 1965. Throughout his life as a designer and board builder, one hallmark has always been tinkering and innovating. Part of the Sunset Cliffs crew of shapers and designers, his early inspirations were some of the greats: Skip Frye, George Greenough, Steve Lis, Larry Gephart and more. But starting in the mid 70's, Steve took the road less traveled and began playing around with adding flex to his surfboards. After some years of experimentation, Pendoflex was born. "A Pendoflex seems to tap more of the available energy. . .sort of like a Fiberflex skateboard, weighting and unweighting . . . building speed on speed. The high speed torque built into these boards slingshots you around sections. They cover all kinds of area in the flats, are sure and steady in the tube and sick in the pit. Subtle flex characteristics fuel powerful rail turns, while the board conforms to the wave face." As surfers, we all understand why fins have flex... to assist in turns, add drive and speed, and so on. Why wouldn't some serious flex in the tail of your board provide similar benefits? Come on down on September 8th & 9th, meet Steve and Cher, listen to their stories and find out for yourself.
