7-Day Board Building Course

Classes begin each day at 7:30am. Breakfast is either first thing, or right after we get something glued on to your board, just depends on the day.
Lunch will be served around midday.
7-Day Board Building begins Sunday morning and ends the following Saturday

Day 1: Sunday

  • Overview of Grain and the building process
  • Methods of gluing up top and bottom planks
  • Build rocker table
  • Glue frame to bottom planks

    • Day 2: Monday

  • Discussion of shape and its effect on performance
  • Begin railing process with chine log and primary strip
  • Steam bending techniques
  • Lay out and glue up top planks
  • Evening glassing demonstration- Lam coat

    • Day 3: Tuesday

  • Continue railing board
  • Cut and install internal blocking, mark locations
  • Glue up tail blocks
  • Prep top planks
  • Discuss the rail to deck joint and how to obtain a good fair line and a tight glue joint
  • Evening glassing demonstration – Hot coat

    • Day 4: Wednesday

  • Finish railing board
  • Clean and rough shape rails
  • Shave down lands

    • Day 5: Thursday

  • Finish lands
  • Discuss top sheet steam-bending techniques
  • Steam and glue down top planks

    • Day 6: Friday

  • Shave down top planks
  • Fair deck to rail seam
  • Fair and sand rail strips
  • Glue on tail block

    • Day 7: Saturday

  • Plane and sand top and bottom planks
  • Refine outline and rail shapes
  • Final shaping, sanding
