Grain Surfboards Heads West...Again.
Grain Surfboards is heading west again. This time, we’ll be in Del Mar for the Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo. This is a great show for surfers to get a chance to meet the builders who craft their boards, definitely our kind of gathering. It’s a great place to talk wood and water for unvarnished feedback on boards, designs, and the future.
We're excited to get back out to California because even though we love surfing on the East coast, its important to be where so much of the innovation in modern surfboard design happens. We’ll update our builder's blog and if you can make it by Sacred Craft, come say hello.
Build Your Own Surfboard Class: November 16 - 22
We filled our October workshop so quickly - so we added another class this November. We need at least four builders who want to go for it - and we’ve got three committed. Sign up quick if you want to reserve a seat for our latest board-building class. Call us at: 207-457-5313 or email mike@grainsurfboards.com, we’ll take six builders total for this class.
From the guidance of Grain's board builders to the great meals every day, the class only gets better when you get a new custom wooden surfboard ready for glassing. Give yourself (or a good friend) a great Christmas gift! Some other benefits to look forward to: Fall waves, off-season lodging, a chance to connect with other folks excited about surfing and some great memories to carry you through the winter. New Board Design: 7'-2" Fish - "The Longliner"
We've just completed and tested a new 7’2” fish design that we are really pumped about. This board was commissioned by a Vermonter who also wanted some local Vermont wood built in. He sent us some birdseye maple and some ideas, so we put it all into a 3D model and tweaked away. This board came out so beautifully, that our own John Hamblett decided to build one for himself. Three sessions later, John is still grinning ear to ear.
The Longliner carries John's X-tall frame with no problems, it paddles wicked and catches waves with ease like a good fish should. Deep, double concaves make it quick to plane up to speed and provide terrific initial stability. A big man's shortboard or a transition stick for longboarders, this new fish is sure to be a shop favorite.
