Build Your Own Wooden Surfboard in our Shop in York, Maine

Due to growing interest, Grain Surfboards is now offering wooden surfboard building classes right in our shop in York, Maine. Our next week-long class begins Sunday, April 27th and runs until Saturday, May 3rd.

Tuition for the week-long course is $1,525.00 and covers 7 days of instruction, all materials, including glassing supplies, all necessary tools, shop use, as well as breakfast and lunch for each day. Lodging and dinner are not provided, but we can certainly help you find a great, comfortable place to stay in York.

New Paipo Board in the Works

People have been catching waves on Paipos for a long time. Like a boogie board, it's one shape that can really be enjoyed by just about anyone. Kids surf them in the white water while adults can drop in to bigger waves, giving you a whole new perspective on wave riding. The crew here at the shop have been putting together a plan to design and build hollow wooden Paipos from the scrap wood that has become a bi-product of our building process.

Our new Paipo model called "The Twig" will be built of completely recycled or unused scrap materials from the shop, with the same solid craftsmanship of our custom wooden surfboards. We're hoping to seal the board with bio-resin allowing it to peacefully return to the earth when it's finally retired.

Grain Surfboards’ Twig Paipo will be available at a more affordable price point, making it an even better alternative for surfers and families looking for a way to have more fun in the waves without harming the environment.

We hope to offer this board for sale online and through our retail partners in the US, UK and Australia soon. Keep an eye on the Grain Builder’s Blog for more details in the coming weeks.
