The Wood Shop- NOW OPEN in Portsmouth NH

October 3rd, 2012, by Mike

We dream big. New board shapes, better machinery in the shop, endless waves, that sort of stuff. But one dream that is about to become reality is opening our own retail shop.

If you’ve been to our actual wood shop here on the farm, then you know we’re a bit off the beaten path, which means we probably don’t get to meet as many people face to face as we’d like. But thanks to the hard work of some good friends, starting this Friday, October 5th we’ll be opening The Wood Shop, a small surf, skate and snowboard shop with a focus on hand-crafted wood.

Grain Surfboards

In addition to our surfboards, body boards, handplanes, skateboards and apparel, we’ll be carrying some really special hand made products from all around the country. One product I’m really excited about are PowderJet Snowboards. My good friend Jesse makes these beautiful wooden snowboards by hand in Rupert Vermont using FSC certified maple and Entropy Bio-Resin. More for backcountry than ski areas, these boards work great in deep snow and tight trees, perfect for a New England winter adventure.

Grain and PowderJet

All the way from Portland Oregon, we’ll also be carrying wooden sunglasses from the good people over at Schwood and custom Grain-branded wood Iphone cases from our friends at Grove. From California, we’ll have alaias and paipos from Jon Wegener and from the Northeast, we’ll have board shorts made with recycled material from Greenlines, organic hand made surf wax from Jimbos and East Wax Company, recycled sail cloth wallets from Flowfold and more.

Come on by and give the gift of wood this holiday season. Come January, The Wood Shop may have moved on and this might be nothing more than a mid-winters dream.

    Hey all,
The Wood Shop is at 74 Congress St. which is just south of Fleet St. near Market Square News. We’re the only wood building on the block I think, and just upstairs. Come down on Friday night – we’re gonna be open with most of the store good stocked. I’m sure we’ll be celebrating a little if you know what I mean.

Hey boys – Congrats on the new retail shop. Stopped by yesterday. Nicely done. Please tell those guys at Shwood they need to make some glasses for individuals with a huge dome! Totally rad glasses but just too small for me. Oh well.

Are the Grove cases for the new iPhone 5? I forgot to ask yesterday.

    All the best!

Nice addition to the Grain lineup! However, aren’t you cold-water guys ready to open “Grain Surfboards South” down here in sunny SE Florida? Let’s get to work. We’ve got great weather, water, waves, and plenty of disposable income, too!

    Ha! Ya never know…
