Surprise visit from musician Brett Dennen and Co. Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

We recently got word from road tour manager/surfer/Grain enthusiast Matt Montee, that he was rolling through town with Brett Dennen. An amazing musician from Northern CA. They were in between shows and headed to Portland for a show that night. Soon after we gave Matt directions, the tour bus pulled up and spent the next hour taking the tour through the Grain shop. T-shirts and music were exchanged and later that night a bunch of us headed to Portland to watch Brett’s show. If you haven’t heard his music, make it a point to do so. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Video Inspiration from Tom Wegener Thursday, February 15th, 2007

Tom Wegener has been an idol of ours for years. If you’ve seen the surf film Sprout or read the issue of Surfers Journal with his interview in it, you’ll know why. Tom is an inspiration to surfers everywhere not only through his surfing style, but through his beautiful boards, commitment to the environment, and simple, low impact lifestyle that everyone can aspire to.

If you’d like to understand more about why wood is good, check out the two flicks he has up on YouTube. Tom clearly and soulfully explains the benefits of surfing wooden boards in only the way a master can.

Experimenting with Wood Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

We’ve got a couple new boards going in the shop right now. Local boy Natty Graham is working on a new 5′7″ Double-Winged Quad. By the looks of this template, it might be the lightest most progressive shape to come out of the Grain shop. In complete contrast to the 5′7″ Quad, we are currently working on a 12′0 Stand-up Paddle board. If all goes well, you can plan to see these designs added to the Grain Surfboards line in the future.

Texan Ten Footer Monday, February 5th, 2007

Here’s a brand new 10′0 Waterlog just about ready to leave the Grain Surfboards shop. It will be the first board we’ve built to have it’s home based in Texas, but word has it that the board will be spending a lot of time in the waters of Southern California. Malibu always looked more fun than those tanker wakes anyway. Images below for your enjoyment.
